Room 501, Latish Friday Night

It was fairly late at night, but Sam was wide awake.

Nightmares about giant crazy evil robots trying to kill you and/or your world would do that to a guy. Hence the pacing and muttering and general not-sleeping. He could call Mikaela? No, Mikaela was asleep and would swear at him.

This sucked.

Bumblebee had no reason to be up, except that he hadn't spoken to Sam lately; he took his duty seriously, yes, but as well he also enjoyed Sam's company and felt badly for not seeing him more often since they'd arrived. Moving down to Sam's door as quietly as he was able, he barely gave a moment's pause before knocking gently.

Sam flung the door open, blinked, and said, "Oh, hey, Bee."

He wasn't tense. Nope, not at all. Really. He swore.

"What's got you out this time of night, dude?"

"I haven't seen you for a significant period of time. I apologize if I woke you or your roommate." he added, somewhat sheepishly.

"She's uh." Sam looked around. "She's at your other character's not here right now. Not sure where she is." Not real concerned, either. "Come on in. Don't wake Mojo."

"Not on purpose," he assured Sam, taking careful steps as he moved into the room. He stopped when he was fully inside, glancing around with obvious curiosity, and finally settled his gaze back on Sam. "How have you been?"

"I'm cool, you know, settling in, just chilling. I think the fitness instructor might be a crazy person, but, you know. Cool. What've you been up to?"

"I have attended my classes and met new people. There are some people who are very friendly and interested in me, here," he said, sounding pleased. Regarding his friend for a moment, Bumblebee tilted his head quizzically. "Are you all right, Sam?"

"Me? Yeah, I'm fine. Why--why would you say that? 'Cause I'm cool, you know me. Like a cucumber." Not really. "So everybody's been cool? That's awesome." Not running and screaming was very good. Sam approved.

"Everyone has," he confirmed, a little uncertainty in his tone as he watched Sam more closely. "Tony Stark seemed especially curious about Cybertronians, and also my engine. I spent quite a few hours in his shop yesterday."

Sam Witwicky: twitchy bastard. Bumblebee knew this, so--oh hell, was he being more twitchy than usual. Okay, cool, Sam, don't worry the robot, be cool. He was cool.

"Tony Stark? Who's Tony Stark? And." Mikaela was going to be so pissed. "What about your engine now?"

"A human male who operates a store in town. He wanted to know how I worked," Bumblebee explained. "He was also less reserved in tactile exploration than most humans I've met so far."

"Less reser--he touched you? He touched, like, your engine?"

"Yes." Bumblebee paused, then added, "He was very gentle, if somewhat excitable."

"And is that. I mean. Is that, like. Okay?" It certainly sounded kind of dirty. Excitable?

Bumblebee almost fidgeted, his antennae flattening back as he considered Sam's reaction. "I allowed it, as he seemed genuinely interested. But I won't in the future, if that's what you prefer."

"No, no, I mean, that's up to you, it's your...engine. I. How much of the internet did you look at, again?"

"A bit. Why?"

Sam turned pink. "No reason."

"If you're sure," he prodded, slightly bemused by the slight change in heat signature. "You are my priority, Sam; I don't want to upset you."

"I'm not upset," Sam said. He was worried that someone might have taken advantage of his car. "Why would you think I'm upset? I'm not upset."

One day, he would realize this was a great big tell. This was not that day. Tomorrow wasn't looking real good either.

Bumblebee's optics dimmed, not entirely certain he knew what was wrong.

"You can talk to me, you can set your secrets free, baby," he finally offered, slightly muted.
