Room 501, Tuesday Afternoon

Sam and his good hand were having an excellent time getting acquainted with his new Wii. "Whaddaya think, Mojo?" he asked his Chihuahua. "Maybe I should get hurt more often if it's going to net me cool loot like this." Mojo just blinked at him. "Yeah, maybe not," he agreed.

And naturally, Pepper wasn't done with phone calls for the day. Sigh.

So she finished making her last note on Tyler Durden before dialing another number and waiting as it rang.

"Yello?" Sam said into his phone, distracted as he was by, you know, his new Wii.

She cleared her throat. "Hello, this is Pepper Potts calling for Sam Witwicky."

[SHHHHH I CAN WRITE.]

Flail! "Um, this is him. He. Um. Hi?"

"Hello, Mr. Witwicky," she said, as warmly as she could. Poor kid sounded kind of nervous. "I'm Mr. Stark's assistant, calling from Malibu. Are you aware of his current media situation?"

"Uh...we don't...necessarily get the same media here as you do out there," Sam said. "The island's kind of weird." He meant 'no.'

Possibly it would've helped if he'd turn on CNN once in a while.

"I can send over some things for you to look at," she said easily. "Mr. Stark gained some focus this past weekend due to some...activity...in New York with a Mr. Tyler Durden. From what I understand, you're his assistant while he's on that island? It may benefit you to understand what's happened and what could come."

"Mr. Durden the chemistry teacher?" Sam wondered. "I mean. Okay. Sure."

"Yes," she said slowly. "Mr. Durden mentioned something about there being a mention on your radio there, as well. They were photographed kissing on Saturday night, and the paparazzi have, naturally, been rather focused since. Are you used to dealing with the media, Mr. Witwicky?"

"...kissing," Sam said, and, "Uh, more with stonewalling the media, really."

She grinned. "Excellent. I hope those skills are sharp, then, if you encounter any paparazzi. I'm not sure how much you know of Mr. Stark's former reputation, but this is a rather unexpected development, and things might be a little bit...hectic for awhile."

"It's gotta be a step up from marrying Lindsay Lohan in Vegas, though, right?" Sam joked.

The line was quiet for a moment, and then she slowly said, "...don't give him ideas."

"You said it first," Sam defended himself. "And I would like to point out that he has not, so I am clearly doing my job."

"Just continue as you have," she said warmly. "It's not a matter of keeping him out of trouble; that's impossible. You just have to clean up the messes."

"Easy for you to say," Sam grumbled. She was, like, out of high school.

"If you ever have any trouble with him," she said, not without sympathy, "you can feel free to call or email me."
